A quick "intermission"....
First, we really enjoyed traveling to Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington to visit friends and family. The truck and trailer are well suited to us and working nicely.
The only real issue was a left front tire blowout (not just a leak, but a "KABAAAM" with pieces of tire flying all over the place) while traveling about 60 mph, towing the trailer, in the center lane of an elevated freeway. I though this would be a good time for Cindy to be 'an equal partner' and offer to change the tire. No such luck. However, a police officer did respond and watched traffic while we changed the tire. The helpful officer asked if we knew that "it's 110 degrees outside right now". No kidding. I told him that back home, police officers would assist motorists and help with the tire. His response: "sucks to not be back home, don't it?" and something about not being able to make it back on just the wheel rim.
We stayed mostly in State and County parks on the trip. Very nice.
Once in California, Buddy was introduced to his new home... in that it wouldn't be fair to try to take him across the Pacific when we resume sailing. Dropping him off on the trip up to Washington would allow his new family to see if things would go well with a new dog... and if not, we would still have time to make other arrangements.
They say the only difference between an 'ordeal' and an 'adventure' is your attitude. We'll we're about to embark on another 'adventure'. Being distant landlords wasn't quite working out. So we took back possession of our house. The housing market isn't too favorable right now, so we'll stay for a while and either sell in a year or so, or maybe try housesitters and sail for shorter periods of time. We'll see.
At this point, we're anxious to get back sailing... and have a goal to be back cruising from October 2009 through June 2010. Our plans are to head south to Zihuatanejo for the 2010 Sailfest, then back to Guaymas or San Carlos. Then, take off again in November 2010 to ??
"We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust our sails"
Travelling throught the southwest was great. An added bonus, most of the campgrounds were reletively empty, in that July is "off season". Great for us.
Back home in Washington for a bit. Cindy keeps checking the weather forecasts for the Sea of Cortez. Letsee, 80 degrees in Mexico, below freezing and snow here. We gotta get back to the boat and cruising again.... soon.
